Homewatch – The Who, What, When and Why
What exactly is Homewatch? Who does it, when it should be done and why it needs to be done are important questions that will help you make an informed decision when choosing who to watch after your home when you are out of town, so let’s investigate:
WHO…. Homewatch is someone that visually inspects your home and property when you are out of town for an extended period of time. That could be a neighbor, your housekeeper, your pet sitter, or a professional who is experienced in Homewatch. YES, Homewatch requires experience! The decision about who you choose to comes down to what you are willing to risk by choosing someone who is inexperienced.
WHAT…. Homewatch is a visual inspection of your home and property, while you are away. It requires someone who knows what they are looking for and who can notice obvious signs of underlying issues that may result in more costly repairs, like window and roof leaks. The person or company you choose should be able to recognize obvious problems and notify you about anything that needs to be addressed, so you can make quick decisions on how to proceed.
WHEN… Generally, Homewatch is a weekly inspection of your home and property, but sometimes more frequently depending on the situation.
WHY… Leaving your home without a set of eyes for any period of time, can result in your coming home to a situation you weren’t expecting and definitely not wanting. Roof or window leaks, power outage, air conditioner not working, golf ball through your window, rodent/pest activity, mold or severe storms are just some examples of potential situations that may arise here in South Florida while you are out of town.
If you will be an absentee seasonal owner, we encourage you to work with a Homewatch company, and ensure that you have peace of mind while you are away.
